How early should I arrive at Edinburgh Airport?

Your airline’s arrival guidance, check-in deadlines and boarding pass take priority. Use the planner to work backwards from your dated flight, with separate arrival times for hand luggage and checked baggage.

Start with your airline’s timings

Edinburgh Airport recommends checking when your airline opens check-in and following its advice. Arriving much earlier does not guarantee that you can drop a bag. Our times are planning estimates, not a guarantee that check-in is open or that you will make your flight.

Read Edinburgh Airport’s official arrival advice. Check your booking or airline app for the specific bag-drop closing time and gate deadline.

Hand luggage and checked baggage

With hand luggage and an online boarding pass, you may be able to go straight to security. Allow for document checks if your airline requires them. Checked baggage adds bag drop or desk time before security. The planner shows both options equally; travelling together usually means following the earlier time.

Early-morning flights

Choose the departure date explicitly, especially around midnight. An arrival time can fall on the evening before an early flight. Open the calculation for the full arrival date, check airline desk opening times, and confirm your first train, bus or booked taxi can get you there. An early flight is not evidence of a short security queue.

Security today and on a future date

Today’s Edinburgh security reading is shown with its age. A future travel date uses a 30-minute planning allowance, not today’s queue as a forecast. Open the calculation to see the security, gate-walk, boarding and contingency allowances. Conditions can change after you save or share a plan.

What if the flight is delayed?

Keep the original airline arrival and bag-drop timings unless the airline explicitly tells you otherwise. A departure delay does not necessarily move check-in or gate deadlines. Follow airline notifications and airport screens.

Extra help, children and special baggage

Contact your airline or the airport about assistance, mobility needs or oversize baggage before travelling. Allow additional time for your circumstances; a generic calculation cannot know every requirement. Use Regular or Holiday mode for extra breathing room rather than treating In a rush as a latest safe arrival.

Coordinate the group

Find the right flight and date, then send the plan to your travel group. Each person can save the flight without an account. Share the link with any image so the recipient can open the dated flight and check updated information.

Plan the journey to the airport

The optional leave-home calculator works backwards from the airport time. Road estimates do not include live traffic. Check current routing, pickup time and disruption before leaving; public-transport journey time can be entered manually.
